Teaching English is actual and very important nowadays
because English language is widely used in our life. To be an English teacher
is to be an actor, a musician, a historian, a geographer. It is a creative work
as well.
I’m working on
a teaching problem which is devoted to a very actual, interesting and exciting
theme “Teaching Communicative Competence” in an English class in the secondary
school. It is pretty actual these days because the learners are expected to use
the language in real communication and it helps to improve their learning and
knowledge of English language.
According to
the updated State Standard of Education I teach the second foreign language. It
is Spanish.
The experience
of my long time teaching English is based on the professional motto “Teaching
is listening, learning is talking”.
Usually the
traditional approach to this problem is students learn grammar, vocabulary and
only after this they are expected to use this knowledge in communication in
real situations. The innovatory moment of the learning English is use of IT
Technologies, Learner-Centered and Interactive methods all at the same time.
The following
are only a few of the teaching methods and techniques that I use in my class,
such as dramatizing and role play, project files, organizing informal
socializing of students in out of class activities, which are TV Bridges,
celebrating traditional national and English holidays, and of course meeting regularly
at an English club started by American volunteers of Peace Corps of the USA in
Ukraine Paul Reynolds and Matthew Vincent.
Effective
teaching English in a class can be reached by different approaches, such as
“Jigsaw”, “Brainstorm”, “Trainings”, “Language Box” and others. The most
popular methods of teaching English in my opinion are the methods of
“Integration” and “Association” which serve the educational purpose as well.
Some of them are published in the “Teacher’s journal online”.
I believe that
the Regional studies are the most popular in a class now, including
national-patriotic education. The main objective of it is to extend and develop
students’ knowledge of the native country.
I am proud of
my former students that study at the foreign Universities and even work as the
interpreters in our country and abroad.
